What is Demand Response?

Demand response is the most reliable and cost-effective option available in the energy industry for providing a cleaner and more sustainable future for everyone. Simply put, demand response is the temporary, periodic reduction of energy usage to relieve grid constraints.

Reducing one MWh of energy during a demand response event has the same effect on electricity reliability as generating one additional MWh of energy—without the by-product of pollution. By reducing energy during peak times, you reduce the likelihood that more environmentally harmful forms of generation will be needed while simultaneously improving the stability of our energy grid.

Why Should I Participate?

Your participation in demand response holds significant benefits for your business and your corporate social responsibility strategy.

Save Money

Energy cost is one of the largest expenses in business today. By participating in demand response initiatives, you will receive significant financial incentives and cost avoidance through energy you didn’t use. To find out more about the opportunities and incentives available in your area, see our Opportunities page.

Help the Community

Your efforts to use less energy during critical times will improve the stability of your community’s power supply and reduce the threat of rolling blackouts.

Preserve the Environment

Demand response is a green initiative. By reducing your energy consumption during peak times, you are helping to reduce dependence on “peaking” power plants that emit toxic pollutants into our atmosphere. This is a clean option for supplying power onto the grid. Find out more on our Environment page.
